Latino Legislative Caucus Hosts Green Jobs Summit in Downtown Los Angeles

Chairwoman Karen Douglas of California Energy Commission to be Keynote Speaker

SACRAMENTO (OBSNews.com) - The Latino Legislative Caucus and State Senator Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) will host the Green Jobs Summit, El Poder Verde, in downtown Los Angeles this Thursday and Friday, October 29-30. Chairwoman Karen Douglas of the California Energy Commission will give a keynote address at an opening reception on Thursday beginning at 7:00 P.M.

Other speakers will include Commissioner Dian Grueneich of the California Public Utilities Commission; Barbara Halsey, Executive Director of the California Workforce Investment Board; Orson Aguilar, Executive Director of the Greenling Institute; and Rafael Aguilera, Executive Director of the Verde Group. On Friday three panel discussions will focus on emerging sectors and job opportunities within the green economy, distribution of benefits and burdens, job training and regulatory challenges.

The event will be held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown, which was awarded Green Seal's Silver Certification for its environmental sustainability efforts in August. The hotel is the first in the city to achieve the non profit’s certification which conforms to science-based sustainability standards, and also the first in the Los Angeles City Council’s Green Business program.

On Friday the 30th the day will begin with welcoming remarks by Senator Gilbert Cedillo. From 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. there will be policy panel discussions with a break from Noon to 1:15 P.M. for lunch.
