Project Completed With Help of Hard Fought Measure R Funding By Christy Wolfe LOS ANGELES (OBSNews.com) – Senator Gilbert Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) along with local, state and federal elected officials attended the official dedication ceremony for the Edward R. Roybal Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension on Saturday. A crowd of community leaders and representatives from Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority celebrated the completion at the new Metro East LA Civic Center Station almost one year after voters approved the Measure R initiative that helped fund the project. Cedillo championed efforts to secure $1.8 billion of Measure R proceeds for the Gold Line extension and other transportation projects in eastern Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. “I am proud we were able to secure proportional funding for East L.A. and the San Gabriel Valley for desperately needed projects. This region suffers some of the worst traffic congestion in the country and deserved to have its fair share of transportation dollars included in Measure R,” shared Cedillo. Cedillo added, “The dedication of this extension in honor of Congressman Ed Roybal is an emotional and inspiring event for the community. It is a fitting tribute to the Congressman who was a life-long advocate for East L.A. and the region on quality of life issues.” The rail line runs six miles connecting the communities of Pasadena, downtown Los Angeles and East Los Angeles. Along with the Blue and Green light-rail lines, Red and Purple subway lines and the dedicated Orange busway line, the new link creates an expanding network of public transit between Los Angeles, Long Beach, Norwalk, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley.
