The Sacramento Police Officers Association joins Local Area Firefighters 522 in Endorsing Lauren Hammond SACRAMENTO (OBSNews.com)– The Sacramento Police Officers Association (SPOA) has endorsed Sacramento City Councilmember Lauren Hammond to represent District 9 in the California State Assembly. “The Sacramento Police Officers Association believes Lauren Hammond is the best choice to represent Sacramento and the interests of its citizens in the state Legislature,” said Brent J. Meyer, president of the Sacramento Police Officers Association. “We proudly endorse her to represent State Assembly District 9, and know she will be accountable not only to Sacramentans, but also to the residents of the State of California.” The SPOA represents nearly 1100 active, retired and reserve Police Sergeants, Police Officers, Community Service Officers, and Communications Dispatchers within the City of Sacramento’s Police Department. “The endorsement of Sacramento's police officers – the men and women who put their lives on the line day in and day out to protect our community – is priceless,” said Lauren Hammond. "I am incredibly proud to have their endorsement. "Government's first job is to protect our citizens. In the state Assembly, we must be more creative in our efforts to balance our budgets in a way that doesn't hurt public safety and doesn't punish our dedicated law enforcement employees. That will be my focus as a member of the Assembly." The SPOA joins Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 and a number of other unions, including the Amalgamated Transit Union and the United Transportation Union, in supporting Hammond, the first African-American woman elected to the Sacramento City Council in 1997. |
