The Sacramento Police Officers Association joins Local Area Firefighters 522 in Endorsing Lauren Hammond

SACRAMENTO (OBSNews.com)– The Sacramento Police Officers Association (SPOA) has endorsed Sacramento City Councilmember Lauren Hammond to represent District 9 in the California State Assembly.

“The Sacramento Police Officers Association believes Lauren Hammond is the best choice to represent Sacramento and the interests of its citizens in the state Legislature,” said Brent J. Meyer, president of the Sacramento Police Officers Association. “We proudly endorse her to represent State Assembly District 9, and know she will be accountable not only to Sacramentans, but also to the residents of the State of California.”

SACRAMENTO (OBSNews.com) – Solar electricity systems are being installed at nine U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District park and dam operation offices in California, part of a Corps-wide effort to improve the environmental sustainability of its projects.

The systems, paid for with funds provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), are expected to provide 41 percent of each office’s electricity needs on average, said Sacramento District Northern Area Operations Manager Phil Holcomb.

SACRAMENTO (OBSNews.com)— A Johnston Park playground that was destroyed by arsonists will once again be the setting for imaginative play by children who reside in north Sacramento. This Saturday, City staff, community members, the nonprofit organization Mutual Assistance Network of Del Paso Heights, and 75 volunteers from the Active 20-30 Club of Sacramento will build a new and much more impressive playground on the site of the former playground.

“We were all saddened to hear that one of north Sacramento’s most popular playgrounds had been destroyed,” said Councilmember Sandy Sheedy. “That sadness will soon be replaced with genuine joy after the playground is rebuilt. I wish to thank all City staff, community members, organizations, and groups that are helping to rebuild this special playground for the children of this community.”

The Johnston Park Playground Rebuild will take place this Saturday, March 13, between 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Johnston Park is located at 231 Eleanor Avenue.

SACRAMENTO (OBSNews.com) - On Thursday January 14, 2010 business leaders from throughout the Sacramento region gathered at the Liquidity Event in downtown Sacramento to honor two local business owners with recognition for being outstanding 'social entrepreneurs' as well as three others who successfully founded and successfully sold a business in the Sacramento region.

The Liquidity Event, a benefit event and silent auction designed to benefit the Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance (SARTA), Entrepreneur's Organization – Sacramento, and The Sacramento Angels, celebrated its second year and was again emceed by Sacramento's mayor Kevin Johnson.
